Frequently Asked Questions and Technical Support
Purchasing and Signing Up
- My Access Code doesn't work.
An Access Code is an 8-character code that allows you to add a Practice Set your account by clicking the "Get More Practice Sets" button.
If the code you are trying to enter looks like a phone number or a social security number, e.g., 123-45-678, that number is not an Access Code. That number is a Class Code (see below) that adds you to an instructor's class.
- I bought an ebook. Does my book come with an Access Code?
Yes, ebook purchases from supported partner platforms (including Kindle, Redshelf, Vitalsource, and Perusall) grant access to Core Knowledge for Lawyers content when available.
Please first create your free Core Knowledge for Lawyers account. Next, email proof of purchase of your ebook (e.g., a screenshot or a forwarded email) to support@coreknowledgeforlawyers.com. We will add the practice set to your account.

- Will Core Knowledge for Lawyers work on my Tablet?
Tablets
Core Knowledge for Lawyers supports the following tablet operating systems and browsers:
- Apple iPads running iOS 12 or higher and the Safari browser.
- Android Tablets running the Android 10 or higher operating system and the Google Chrome browser.
- My on-screen keyboard does not have all the necessary keys. You do not ever have to use the keyboard to type special characters. You can always access the necessary punctuation marks (e.g., paragraph symbols–also known as pilcrows [¶], section marks [§], en dashes [–], etc.) or words through the CKL palette that appears to the left of every exercise question. You may also read more about formatting your answers in the Styling and Special Character Buttons help section.
If you are using a Tablet and having trouble using the palette buttons, please see the Tablet Help section below.
- Tablet Help
Due to the precise nature of Bluebook citations, we recommend that you disable all automatic and predictive typing features when using tablets.
iPad
Settings > General > Keyboard
Turn OFF: Auto-Correction, Check Spelling, and Predictive (Predictive is only on iOS 8 or higher). If these functions are enabled, the iPad will change text in the answer box that it believes is spelled incorrectly, e.g., "Id." (correct) to "Aid." (incorrect).
Android
Android tablets must have both Auto Capitalization and Predictive Typing disabled in order for the CKL palette buttons to work. Instructions for doing this vary depending on the version of Android and the make of the tablet. Here are a few examples:
Samsung Tablet
(Android 4.2 Jelly Bean)Settings > Language and Input > Samsung Keyboard (tap gear next to selected keyboard)
Turn OFF: Predictive Text (this is similar to spell checking and only exists on Samsung devices).
Then, tap Advanced:
Turn OFF: Auto Capitalization.Samsung Tablet
(Android 4.4 KitKat)Settings > Language and Input > Keyboard Settings (tap gear next to selected keyboard)
